James Dalton was a merchant and pastoralist, born in Ireland. He moved to New South Wales in the late 1840s with his father due to the famine. In 1853 James set up as a storekeeper in Orange primarily servicing locals and the mining industry. They quickly grew and diversified, helping everyday Australians became apart of their makeup.
